HYANNIS - Cal-Irvine pitcher Bryce Stowell struck out nine Mets over seven strong innings to lead the Braves to a crucial win over West rival Hyannis last night at McKeon Park.
Hyannis and Cotuit are tied for first in the West with 44 points apiece. Falmouth has 43 and Bourne has 41. All four teams have three regular-season games remaining.
Stowell scattered four hits over his seven innings and was helped out by three sacrifice flies by the Braves offense. James Williamson (William and Mary), Pierre LePage (UConn) and Brandon Bantz (Dallas Baptist) accounted for the Braves' runs via sacrifice fly.
Bantz's fly in the ninth proved to be important when Hyannis' Curt Casali (Vanderbilt) hit a sacrifice fly of his own in the bottom of the ninth off Eric Pettis (Cal-Irvine).
But Pettis held on for his seventh save.
Hyannis' Trent Ashcraft (East Carolina) had his 17th multiple-hit game of the season, going 2-for-4.
Kyle Roller (East Carolina) had two hits for Bourne
