Cape League: Playoff Forecast Cloudy

With just two days left in the Cape Cod Baseball League regular season, the playoff picture is murky at best.
Of the league's two divisions, the East is much clearer than the West. Orleans has clinched the East title. Harwich is in good position to take the division's second playoff spot, though Brewster is still in contention and Chatham still has a slim chance. Defending champion Yarmouth-Dennis will not make the playoffs.
The West is still a jumble. Wareham cannot make the postseason, but the other four teams still have a shot. Just four points separate first place and fourth place.
Here's a breakdown of how the playoff picture could turn out for the teams still in contention, and what each needs to do to reach the postseason, which is scheduled to begin Saturday:
In the East, Orleans is scheduled to host a playoff game Saturday. Second place is still a tossup.
Harwich (44 points, second place) is guaranteed at least a play-in game Friday for a playoff berth. If the Mariners win either of their two remaining games, they will make the postseason. If Harwich loses both games, including tomorrow's matchup with Brewster, the teams will meet again Friday to play for the playoffs. Brewster would host the play-in game by virtue of its head-to-head record versus Harwich.
If Brewster (40 points, third place) wins its two remaining games and Harwich loses twice, there will be a play-in game Friday at Brewster. If the Whitecaps lose either of their remaining games, or Harwich wins today or tomorrow, Brewster is eliminated.
Chatham (38 points, fourth place) still has an outside chance of reching a play-in game. The A's have an extra game in hand and if they win all three, and Harwich loses out, there would be a play-in game at Harwich on Friday. The Mariners are 6-0 against Chatham this season.
The West is also still a work in progress. Cotuit (46 points, first place) is in good position and will definitely be in the playoffs if it wins out. Splitting the final two games guarantees the Kettleers at least a play-in game on Friday. The result of Cotuit's matchup with Hyannis today could have a big impact on how the race turns out.
Falmouth (45 points, second place) will make the playoffs if it wins out. If the Commodores go 1-1, the result is far less clear, especially if they lose their big matchup with Hyannis tomorrow.
Hyannis (44 points, third place) is on the outside looking in right now, but the Mets control their own destiny because their remaining games are against the two teams they're chasing, Cotuit and Falmouth.
Bourne (43 points, fourth place) is still in the hunt, but needs help. If the Braves win twice they still need at least two teams above them to take a slide. Bourne misses the playoffs if it loses twice.
