BREWSTER - Kevin Landry (William & Mary) bailed starter Matt Petiton (Tulane) out of a bases-loaded jam and went on to pitch five no-hit innings of relief to keep the Braves in the hunt for the playoffs.
The win moves Bourne (21-20-1) within two points of a playoff spot in the West.
Landry entered with the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the second. He retired the next three batters without allowing any inherited runners to score, keeping Bourne on top 2-1.
East Carolina teammates gave the Braves the early lead. Kyle Roller plated the game's first run on an error. Stephen Batts followed with an RBI single to right field to give Bourne the early 2-0 lead.
Bourne put the game away in the top of the seventh on an RBI groundout by Pierre LePage (Connecticut) and a one-out double from Marc Krauss (Ohio).
Brewster starter Evan Bronson (Trinity) got no help from his defense, which made four errors. Bronson pitched well despite the setbacks, allowing six hits and five runs (two earned) over seven innings.
The loss puts Brewster on the edge of the playoff hunt. The Whitecaps need to win out and have Harwich lose its last two games to force a play-in game on Friday.
