Cape League: West Still a Mess

With just one day to go in the Cape Cod Baseball League season, at least one division has figured out its playoff picture.
Harwich beat Orleans last night 5-3, clinching the second playoff spot in the Eastern Division. The Mariners and Cardinals will meet for a best-of-three series with the first game at Eldredge Park in Orleans on Saturday at 7 p.m.
For the Western Division race, it's time to get out your slide rule. Even today, the possible outcomes are too numerous to list, thanks in large part to the postponement of yesterday's scheduled game between Hyannis and Cotuit.
Cotuit, Falmouth, Bourne and Hyannis are all in contention for the playoffs. Two points separate Cotuit in first and Hyannis in fourth.
The Kettleers and Mets each play twice today, including a matchup against each other at 11 a.m. in Cotuit. Hyannis also plays Falmouth, which visits McKeon Park tonight. If the Kettleers win one of their games - against Yarmouth-Dennis this afternoon or the Mets tonight - they will make the postseason. If Cotuit loses twice, it will need help to reach the playoffs.
If the Mets win twice, they're in. If they win just once, they will need help to reach the postseason. Two losses would equal the end of the road for Hyannis.
Bourne moved into a tie with Falmouth for second place thanks to its win over Yarmouth-Dennis and Falmouth's loss to Wareham. The Braves play at Wareham tonight. A Bourne loss would mean no playoffs; with a win, the Braves' future depends on the results of other games.
If Falmouth beats Hyannis tonight, it will at least reach a play-in game with Bourne for a shot at the playoffs and could end up as the top seed in the East.
If the Commodores lose, they will miss the postseason.
