Bourne Braves, A Brief History
The Bourne Braves franchise was established in 1987 and first
played in the Cape Cod Baseball League as part of the then
newly formed Western Division. Prior to 1988, the Bourne entry
into the Cape Cod Baseball League was known as the Bourne
Canalmen.
The Canalmen played in the late 1960s and early 1970s before
it withdrew from Cape League play. Prior to the Canalmen,
the team played at Keith Field in Sagamore, beneath the Sagamore
Bridge. Known as the Clouters and later, the Canalamen, the
Sagamore entry into the Cape League enjoyed a storied and
successful history, winning Cape League championship titles
in 1965, 1959, 1956, 1954 and 1951.
