HARWICH, Mass.–The Bourne Braves (14-18-2)  took a beating Thursday night as the Harwich Mariners (20-12-2) ran away with the game in the third inning and never looked back, winning 13-5.

Kennesaw’s AJ Moore made it only two innings, giving up six earned runs off six hits with one walk and two strikeouts, with the first four runs of the game being scored with two outs in both the first and second inning.

The Braves’ bats were unable to keep pace with their opposition, scoring two in the third off a Justin Yurchak (Binghamton) sac fly and a single by Evan Mendoza (NC State.)

With Bourne cutting the deficit to just two runs, the Mariners sprang out ahead in the bottom of the third, with seven runs on three different Bourne pitchers.

After a Pavin Smith (UVA) double and single by Nicholas Feight (UNC Wilmington,) Moore was replaced by Dominic Taccolini (Arkansas) who has struggled in his recent outings.

Tonight was no different as Taccolini was charged with three runs off three hits in just a third of an inning of work. Giving up two by way of a home run by Austin Filiere (MIT.)

The Mariner offense didn’t stop there as they continued to pound Braves’ pitchers by way of the long ball. The third arm of the inning was Sean Leland (Louisville) who was able to settle down and pitch 3 2-3 after giving up a three-run home run in the same inning by third baseman Joseph Dunand (NC State.)

Leland finished the night with three earned runs off seven hits with one walk and five strikeouts.

The middle of the Harwich lineup went a combined 8 for 19 with six RBIs.

The closest the Braves got to stringing together an offensive surge came in the eighth inning, when Tommy DeJuneas (NC State) came in and pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up three earned runs off three hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

After a handful of wild pitches, the Braves moved around the base paths enough to capitalize on a Jeremy Eierman single to score newcomer catcher John Jones (South Carolina.)

Florida’s Danny Reyes continued the rally and hit a double to score Eierman who stole second during the at bat.

That was all the Braves had left, as they went down in order in the top of the ninth for their third consecutive loss.

Bourne returns home Friday to face the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (16-18,) 6 p.m. at Doran Park.

The probable starter for Bourne is Chris Holba (East Carolina) with a TBA for Hyannis.
