BOURNE, Mass.—No need for extra innings tonight as Bourne (3-0) beat the Cotuit Kettleers (0-3), 10-1 on Monday night at Doran Park.

The offense was hot on a cool night as Braves’ hitters racked up 16 hits against six Cotuit pitchers.

Cotuit’s starter, Cal Becker (Sonoma State), lasted just 2 2-3 innings, giving up five hits and three earned runs.

UConn’s Willy Yahn and Connor McVey (Cincinnati) led the offense going a combined 5 for 9 with 3 RBI and 3 runs scored. Yahn missed hitting for the cycle by a home run and ignited the offense in a four-run sixth inning with a standup triple.

Designated hitter Justin Yurchak (Binghamton) continued to see the ball well, going 1 for 2 with two walks and two runs scored. Yurchak is coming off his redshirt season for the Bearcats after transferring from Wake Forest.

All but one Brave had a knock on the night. Including three pinch hitters. Both Jeremy Eierman (Missouri State) and Tyler Houston (Butler) had pinch-hit doubles in the eighth-making Houston’s his first hit in the Cape an extra-base hit.

Braves pitching held Cotuit to a one-run game. Starter Joshua Shapiro (Marshall) earned the win with six scoreless innings of six-hit ball, giving up one walk and striking out four.

New arrival David MacKinnon (Hartford) saw time at first Monday, as Yurchak was the DH. MacKinnon had strong plays in the corner and went 2 for 5 with an RBI in the sixth.

“[MacKinnon] is a hitter and he’s gonna play,” head coach Harvey Shapiro said when asked about where MacKinnon would fit in defensively. “I haven’t really thought about it, [but] he’ll be out there.”

The Braves look to stay hot offensively and atop the division as they visit Cotuit 5 p.m. Tuesday at Lowell Park.
