Braves drop third straight to Harbor Hawks

HYANNIS, Mass.—The Bourne Braves (6-4) slid to a three-game losing streak with a 5-2 loss against the Hyannis Harbor Hawks (3-7) Monday night.

Jake Mangum (Mississippi State) ignited the offense beating out a throw for an infield single. But was caught stealing with David Mackinnon (Hartford) at the plate.

Joshua Shapiro (Marshall) was hit hard in the first, surrendering three runs off four hits. He went four innings giving up four earned runs off five hits and walked six.

Willy Yahn (UConn) and Connor McVey (Cincinnati) had back-to-back hits in the top of the second to put runners in scoring position for the Braves.

But it was Garret Wolforth (Dallas Baptist) in the top of the second who hit a 2 RBI single to score Yahn and Luis Alvarado (Nebraska) to put the Braves on the board, 3-2.

Mangum bounced back from his 0-4 game the previous night and went 3 for 5 with three singles.

Hyannis’ Alex House (Florida Atlantic) lasted 4 2-3 innings giving up 2 runs off five hits striking out two and walking one.

Bourne was unable to produce offense against the Harbor Hawk bullpen that pitched four arms combining to go 4 1-3 innings giving up just two hits.

Al Pesto (Duke) gave up the two hits in two innings of work, walked one and struck out two. Mangum and Wolforth were the only ones to hit the bullpen, roping two singles in the top of the seventh.

The middle of the lineup for the Braves went 1 for 12.

MacKinnon had a rough night at the plate, going 0 for 4 and flew out to right with the bases loaded on two outs.

Bourne gets their much-needed first day off in nine games on Tuesday. They go on the road Wednesday to face western division rival Falmouth Commodores (5-5) in the first meeting of the season.
