BOURNE, Mass.–After two walk-off wins and a clear-cut victory Monday, the Bourne Braves were unable to come out with another late-inning win, falling to the Falmouth Commodores in game 2, 5-4.

Starter Doug Norman (LSU) struggled to find the strike zone, walking five batters in 3 1-3 innings, ultimately giving up three earned runs.

The free passes on base cost the Braves who allowed just three hits in five innings.

Bourne jumped ahead of Falmouth in the second off a single from John Jones (South Carolina) to score Connor Wong (Houston) who led off the inning with a single.

Grant Williams (Kennesaw State) followed Jones up with a back-to-back single to score Andrew Shaps (Arizona State) who had previously worked a walk.

Leading Falmouth 2-1 going into the third, Falmouth tied the game off JJ Matijevic’s (Arizona) sac-fly to score Michale Gigliotti (Lipscomb) who Norman had walked two batters prior.

Falmouth broke the tie in the fourth after Norman loaded the bases and was replaced by Ronnie Rossomando (UConn) who allowed a run to score on a fielder’s choice.

The Braves continued to be resilient, scoring two in the seventh off a single by Evan Mendoza (NC State) and a fielder’s choice by Justin Yurchak (Binghamton) to put the Braves ahead 4-3.

With the hopes of Yurchak scoring the ultimate go-ahed run, Zach Spangler (Kent State) entered his third inning on the mound.

With a Matt McLaughlin (Kansas) leadoff single, Jones gunned him down stealing, throwing a perfect strike to Williams who was unable to hang onto the ball as he applied the tag, leaving a runner in scoring posistion that consequently scored off a double five pitches later.

Robert Hitt (Quinnipiac) relieved Spangler and gave up an RBI double for Falmouth to take the lead and hang on for a final score of 5-4.

Bourne was unable to pullout late-game heroics as Corbin Martin (Texas A&M) struck out the side to force game 3 of the Western Division Championship.

Game 3 is 6 p.m. Wednesday at Falmouth.
