Braves cruise past Commodores

FALMOUTH, Mass.—An off day seemed to be just what the Braves (7-4) needed to get back on track as they won Wednesday night, beating the Falmouth Commodores (5-6,) 7-2.

Connor McVey (Cincinnati) lead the team with a two-run home run in the top of the fourth to put the Braves on the board.

The Commodores struck early against Braves’ starter AJ Perez (Cincinnati) who gave up two runs in the third off a walk and two singles.

Perez finished the night going four innings, allowing two runs, with four hits, two walks and three strikeouts.

The two runs in the third would be all the Commodores could produce, as the Braves’ bullpen pitched five scoreless innings, with each pitcher giving up just one hit.

Commodore starter Jake Bird (UCLA) gave up three runs off five hits while walking three and striking out four.

Reliever Tyler Jones (Wichita State) struggled against the Braves’ bats in the seventh. After walking leadoff Jimmy Herron (Duke,) and a single by speedy Jake Mangum (Mississippi State,) David MacKinnon (Hartford) singled to load the bases for McVey-who hit into a fielder’s choice and got his third RBI of the night.

McVey and Justin Yurchak (Binghamton) both went 2 for 5. Yurchak also knocked in an RBI single in the top of the fifth to bring home Mangum who stole second to be in scoring position.

Although Bourne scored seven, they stranded another eight men on base.

The Braves will ride their one-game winning streak into Thursday night’s home game against the Wareham Gatemen (6-5.) Probable starters are Jake Walters (Alabama) and Christian Taugner (Brown) for the Braves.

Game is scheduled for 6 Thursday at Doran Park.
