Matt Duffy Selected by Red Sox in Fourth Round of MLB Draft

Matt Duffy, who pitched for Bourne in parts of the 2022 and 2023 seasons, was selected in the fourth round of the MLB draft Monday by the Boston Red Sox. The pick holds an approximate value of $580.20k.

Duffy pitched eight scoreless innings for the Braves last summer in their championship season, allowing just one hit and no runs. The right-haander came back and made three starts for them this summer, posting a 1.88 ERA over 14 1/3 innings.

In three seasons for Canisius College, Duffy put up a 3.78 ERA, with 11.6 K/9 compared to only 2.5 BB/9. He left Bourne early to rest before the draft, and is currently committed to transfer to the University of South Carolina.

Duffy is the first draftee to play for Bourne this year. Six former Braves were taken before Duffy, though, including last year’s MVP Matt Shaw 13th overall by the Chicago Cubs.
